I like to make a habit of visiting a wide array of restaurants with my consort and companions. Generally, I have a firm grasp of the establishment's quality after one visit, but subsequent visits are always a chance for redemption or damnation a la overlord. As I eat often, and have opinions constantly, this will be the first of many such entries. We shall begin with the Central Sq Tavern on the Square.
The product: The food at Tavern is quite adequate, though 10% more expensive than it deserves. Items such as the Mac & Cheese, some tasty steak and cheese springrolls, sandwiches, desserts, breakfast items, and fries are all well executed and easy on the palate. The seafood items however, are a disaster. From my own experiences and my spying on those of others, this place has no idea what to look for when purchasing aquatic life to be consumed. I am willing to be the majority is...frozen. That salty, fishy taste, rubbery texture, there is no denying the un-quality. Not even the (very good) seasoning can save it. Overlord Caroline cherishes her aquatic friends and their flavor, and is saddened by your failings.
In all, the food is good, as long as you keep far from the seafood. Nothing terribly original, but good nonetheless. The drinks are average to above average, and I will say the berry sangria is excellent. Overlord approved excellent.
The establishment: Tavern is pretty standard "fancy bar". Lots of black, tvs, small outside area, yadda yadda. The outdoor area is unfortunately small, and the Central Sq characters are rampant. Too bad it isn't larger and with some more shrubbery for peace.
Following that critique of the outdoor area, I will move on to the related topic of the staff. During one visit, we attempted to sit in said outside area with a group of 5. This is apparently a mortal offense because it requires the shifting of a small table and a chair. The whole shebang was a bit of a mess. I've never been death glared, or whined at for requesting a minor accommodation, until now. The service was slow and mostly inattentive, as it has been at other visits, but the waiters at least are (or try to be) nice enough. I realize I am young looking, but I am your future Overlord, and have extensive eating experience. Serve, obey, and you shall know the kindness and approval of your Overlord.
Overlord says three stars. We (the royal We), would go back for a decent meal because it is convenient, but the only reason the tips are good is because the food is on the pricey side.
